The Charter Schools Institute was established by the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York (SUNY) in February, 1999 to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities under the New York Charter Schools Act of 1998 (article 56 of New York Education Law).

Positions at the Institute are offered through the SUNY System Sponsored Programs Office, an operating location of The Research Foundation of State University of New York, a private, nonprofit educational corporation supporting research, education and public service at the State University of New York.




  • Director of School Finance

The Director of School Finance will report to the Vice President and General Counsel and will provide leadership in the area of finance by suggesting, designing and implementing regulatory and fiscal policies that strengthen both the oversight of the Institute as well as the regulatory and fiscal performance of individual charter schools.

  • Systems and Information Analyst

Reporting to the Director of Administration, the Systems and Information Analyst will provide technical support related to the maintenance and development of the Institute's document management system, provide support to the Institute's compliance and communication divisions, as well as provide overall support to the Institute in fulfilling core functions that support the State University of New York's Board of Trustees duties as an authorizer of charter schools.
