To a standing room only crowd of nearly 200 people Monday at the SUNY authorized Grand Concourse Academy Charter School in the Bronx, State University of New York Board Chairman Carl T. Hayden said, “SUNY authorized charter schools have posted stunning results on latest math and ELA exams, overall 92% of students scoring at proficiency in math, and 80% at proficiency in English language arts. There is no other educational enterprise anywhere in this state that came close to that record.” The event marked the 10th anniversary of the creation of the SUNY Charter Schools Institute and honored four SUNY charter schools for earning the highest renewal offered by the Trustees.
June 3, 2009 SUNY Authorized Charter School Students Excel on State Math Exam SUNY Charter Schools Institute Executive Director Jonas S. Chartock today announced that state-wide, 92% percent of students across grades 3-8 in SUNY authorized charter schools scored at or above proficiency on the 2008-09 state assessments in mathematics, exceeding the average proficiency for non-SUNY authorized charter schools and all public schools state-wide, charter and non-charter.
May 8, 2009 SUNY Authorized Charter Schools Make the Grade on the 2008-09 ELA Exam SUNY Charter Schools Institute Executive Director Jonas S. Chartock today announced that state-wide, on average, 80% percent of students across grades 3-8 in SUNY authorized charter schools scored at proficiency on the 2008-09 state assessments in English language arts, exceeding the state-wide average for all schools. SUNY is the largest charter school authorizer in New York State having chartered 64 schools.
March 26, 2009 SUNY Board Grants Highest Renewal to Three NYC Charter Schools The SUNY Board of Trustees, upon recommendation of its Charter Schools Committee and the SUNY Charter Schools Institute, voted on Tuesday to grant full-term, five-year initial renewals to three New York City-based charter schools: Bronx Charter School for Excellence, Excellence Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant, and Grand Concourse Academy Charter School. October 26, 2007 The State University of New York Board of Trustees, upon recommendation of its Committee on Charter Schools and the SUNY Charter Schools Institute, voted today to approve eight new charter schools to be located in: Manhattan (3); the Bronx (1); Brooklyn; (2), Queens (1); and upstate, in Troy (1), New York. Each of these schools plans to open in the fall of 2008. The Trustees’ action marks the first approval of new charter schools in the state in nearly two years.
