Preliminary Proposal Public List Updated

The Board of Trustees of the State University of New York (the “SUNY Trustees”), in its capacity as a charter authorizer, has received Preliminary Proposals in response to the Preliminary September 2013 SUNY Request for Proposals.  The SUNY Charter Schools Institute (the "Institute") set the deadline for receipt of these Preliminary Proposals at 12:00 pm, April 15, 2013.

The Public List indicates only receipt of a Preliminary Proposal.  A proposed school’s appearance on the list does not indicate that the SUNY Trustees have approved or will approve the proposed new school.

Note that applicants who participate in this process must submit a final proposal in response to the final September 2013 Request for Proposals that the Institute will release on September 3 to be eligible to receive the Institute’s recommendation to the SUNY Board of Trustees Charter Schools Committee for approval of a new charter school.

All information listed was reported by applicants at the time of submission, and is subject to change based on further information.

  • The May 2010 amendments to the Charter Schools Act of 1998 require New York's charter authorizers to now accept applications to establish new charter schools by way of a Request for Proposal process. The statute mandates that a draft RFP be issued and public comments sought prior to issuing the RFP in final on September 1, 2013 (effectively September 3 as the 1st falls on a weekend).
  •

  • We welcome your comments. Also, please feel free to share the draft document broadly and/or to post the electronic version on your website. The Institute will accept comments via email to: charters@suny.edu and via mail to: SUNY Charter Schools Institute, 41 State Street, Suite 700, Albany, New York 12207, through 5 p.m. on February 1, 2013. The Institute will also host a meeting via video-conference on January 28, 2013.  Details about the meeting locations will be posted on this webpage above shortly.
