New York State and the federal government offer grant programs to charter schools and prospective charter school applicants.
New York State charter schools may receive state funding for the development, implementation, and operation of charter schools. All charter schools, regardless of authorizer, are eligible to apply to SUNY for $3.1 million in Charter Schools Stimulus Fund Grants (SSF). Grants can be used for facility construction, renovation, financing, leasehold improvements and other facility related expenses. Applicants that demonstrated a record of positive student received priority. Information about this program is available through the Institute.
New charter schools that have been authorized to operate a charter school by either the Board of Regents or the SUNY Board of Trustees are eligible to request funds under this grant program for expenses associated with the planning and implementation of charter school programs. The primary purpose of the Charter School Program (CSP) is to expand the number of high-quality charter schools available to students. CSP funds are administered through the New York State Education Department (SED). Information about this program is available through SED.
