Challenge Preparatory Charter School

District: CSD 27
Authorizer: NYC Chancellor
The mission of the Challenge Preparatory Charter School is to prepare students to excel academically and compete successfully for admission to high-performing public, private and parochial high schools in NYC. To accomplish its mission, Challenge Prep will offer a rigorous academic curriculum within a safe and supportive school environment.

In spite of any obstacles our children face, we believe that if they are given a strong foundation in basic skills they can and will succeed. To close the achievement gap, scholars at Challenge Prep will receive rigorous instruction in English language arts (120 minutes daily), mathematics (90 minutes daily), as well as daily instruction in science, social studies, technology, gym, music, dance, and physical education.

Challenge Prep will offer an extended school day (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) and an extended school year (190 days). The school will also feature small class sizes (only 22 students per class), SMART Board technology and laptop computers in every classroom, two teachers in every classroom (lead teacher and assistant teacher), a brand new musical instrument for each scholar, and two hour of enrichment activities every day.

Our goals is to provide the Far Rockaway community with a high-quality public school alternative in the neighborhood.
