Description:

Green Tech High School is an all-boys high school.  Its college preparatory program will reflect a small-school setting that offers an extended school day and year, two hours daily devoted to English composition and literature, 90 minutes of mathematics instruction, and daily periods allocated for tutoring and other instructional assistance. The small school design will allow for a teacher to student ratio of 1:12, and teachers will be available to students via cell phone for help with homework or other issues at any time throughout the week. The School will also have a full-time college placement coordinator on staff.

The “green” included in the school’s name, Green Tech High Charter School, reflects the School’s commitment to environmental education and awareness. The School will use the natural resources of the capital region, including the Pine Bush, the Adirondack Mountains and the Hudson River, as outdoor classrooms to emphasize environmental issues, build environmental awareness and as a basis for the study of science, geography, history, art and other subjects. The School’s curriculum includes additional benchmarks, based on New York State standards, related to environmental studies that encompass earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and social studies. Finally, the school will offer a semester long Advanced Placement course in environmental studies.

The “tech” in Green Tech High Charter School refers to the school’s commitment to ensure that students who graduate from the school will be technologically (computer) literate rather than having a vocational education meaning. Graduates of the school will understand technological applications as the result of technology being integrated across the core academic courses to promote analytical thinking, creativity, and collaboration that will allow students with various learning styles to excel. In addition, seniors at Green Tech High Charter School will be provided with laptop computers, free of charge, to use throughout the year.
