Each week, the entire Achievement First Brownsville Elementary Charter School team and family, including teachers, students and parents, gather for Morning Circle, during which the community celebrates successes and identifies challenges to overcome. In addition, students share their learning and talent with their peers, teachers and parents during quarterly "arts nights" and potluck dinners. Students perform before their school community while becoming accomplished dancers, singers and artists. Achievement First Brownsville Elementary students also work hard to achieve academic excellence. The school has introduced a math curriculum which uses a constructivist approach to encourage students to generate their own strategies for solving math problems by using manipulatives, writing and discussion. Achievement First Brownsville is part of the Achievement First network.
Achievement First Brownsville Charter Middle School is committed to providing an excellent education in an environment full of both rigor and joy. As with all Achievement First middle schools, students at Achievement First Brownsville Middle look forward to field lessons, scholar dollar incentives, and college trips—a critical component of the college-focused curriculum. Achievement First Brownsville Middle is also taking the lead in a number of new initiatives, including a full-scale computer lab for digital learning and a library with scanner checkout system. Students, teachers and parents gather each Friday for Community Circles, which celebrate important achievements in academics and character development, while also identifying challenges to overcome.
