New SUNY authorized charter schools that have not yet opened are required to submit the following reports and documents to the Institute.  This list contains all important reporting requirements contained in the charter agreement, in law or New York State Education Department statute; however, the ultimate authority is either the law or charter agreement. These requirements generally pertain only to those that must be submitted to the Institute, so charter schools will have other requirements.

Planning Year

Each School Year

  • Annual Budget

    Schools must submit an annual budget by June 30th.

  • Annual Report

    Schools must submit an annual report that is required by statute and governed by the regulations promulgated by the State Education Department.

  • Annual Summary of Applications and Admissions

    Schools must submit an annual summary of applications and admissions.

  • Facility Agreement

    Schools must submit certain documentation before providing instruction in a new facility.

  • Student Application Form

    Schools must provide a student recruitment plan and the school application form each school year.

  • Transportation Request

    Parents of charter school students must submit transportation requests to the school district in which they reside.

Throughout the School Year

  • Billing Report

    Billing Reports include attendance and enrollment reports and are due 30 days in advance of the payment date.

  • Board Meeting Minutes

    The school board must provide the Institute with a copy of meeting minutes with attachments for all meetings and executive sessions.

As Necessary

First Year SUNY authorized charter schools that are in their first of operation are required to submit the following reports and documents to the Institute. This list contains all important reporting requirements contained in the charter agreement, in law or New York State Education Department statute; however, the ultimate authority is either the law or charter agreement. These requirements generally pertain only to those that must be submitted to the Institute, so charter schools will have other requirements.

    The school board must provide the Institute with a copy of meeting minutes with attachments for all meetings and executive sessions.

    Schools must submit a statement of income and expenses for each quarter.

As Necessary

Existing SUNY authorized charter schools are required to submit the following reports and documents to the Institute. This list only includes standard deadlines for materials required by the SUNY Charter Schools Institute.  Additional deadlines may also apply for materials submitted to other entities such as the New York State Education Department or as requested by the Institute on an as-needed basis.
