The Board of Trustees of the State University of New York, in its capacity as a charter authorizer, has received proposals in response to the January 2014 SUNY Request for Proposals. The SUNY Charter Schools Institute set the deadline for receipt of these proposals at March 12, 2014.
The Public List indicates only receipt of a proposal. A proposed school’s appearance on the list does not indicate that the SUNY Trustees have approved or will approve the proposed new school.
All information listed was reported by applicants at the time of submission, and is subject to change based on further information.
Responding to feedback on the 2014 new school proposal process, the Institute extended the 2014 submission deadlines to February 10, 2014 for Letters of Intent, and March 12, 2014 for final proposals.
Today SUNY releases its January 2014 SUNY Request for Proposals (RFP) to establish New York State charter schools. The Response to Public Comments are available here. All comments were reviewed by Institute staff, and changes were made to the RFP based on the feedback received. The Institute thanks all who participated in the open comment process.
The SUNY Charter Schools Institute, on behalf of the SUNY Board of Trustees, is pleased to announce the release of the Draft January 2014 SUNY Request for Proposals (Draft RFP) to open new charter schools. The May 2010 amendments to the Charter Schools Act of 1998 require New York's charter authorizers to accept applications to establish new charter schools by way of a Request for Proposals process. The statute mandates that SUNY issue a draft RFP for public comments prior to issuing the RFP.
The Institute welcomes your comments and encourages you to share the draft document broadly and/or to post the electronic version on your website. The Institute will accept comments via email to: email@example.com and via mail to: SUNY Charter Schools Institute, 41 State Street, Suite 700, Albany, New York 12207, through 5 p.m. on December 19, 2013.
As per the statute, the Institute will review any written comments received by the deadline and consider the comments in finalizing the RFP. The Institute anticipates releasing the final January 2014 RFP and a summary of the comments and the Institute’s corresponding responses on January 6, 2013.
