Recruiting, Application and Admissions Policies

The Charter Schools Institute has created guidance to assist leaders of SUNY authorized charter schools in ensuring that the legal requirements of an open, non-discriminatory admissions process are met, and to provide greater detail regarding student recruitment, application, and admissions charter and monitoring plan requirements.

Please note that the guidance for 2008-09 has been significantly revised given the most recent amendments to the Charter Schools Act that were effective July 1, 2007. Information of critical import has been added to address new requirements regarding: recruitment, application development and the conductof lotteries.

Reporting Requirement

Schools are required to forward a copy of their Admissions Application to the Institute annually.    School submits their own Admissions Application for review.   December 30, 2007
         
Schools in their first year of operation should complete the Institute’s Student Recruitment and School Marketing Efforts Form.   Student Recruitment and School Marketing Efforts Form   January 16, 2008
         
All schools are required to complete the Application and Admissions Summary annually.   Application and Admissions Summary   May 1, 2008
