Remarks by Interim Executive Director Kathryn Connell-Espinosa at the Central Queens Academy Ribbon Cutting

The following is a transcript from the remarks given by Interim Executive Director Kathryn Connell-Espinosa at the ribbon cutting for Central Queens Academy‘s new school building, held on September 7, 2022 in Queens, New York.

“Thank you, Ashish. I am excited to be here on behalf of the SUNY Charter Schools Institute alongside Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar, Louise from Assemblymember Jeff Aubry’s office and all of you as we experience this momentous day. Central Queens Academy has found your forever home, right here in Elmhurst and today, we celebrate that!

Ribbon cuttings of course mark a new beginning. A new chapter. A chance to look to the future and to consider all the possibilities that lie ahead.

They also provide a welcome opportunity to reflect on what came before, the journey it took to reach this point. The hard work and long hours, year after year, to make CQA the success it is today.

And what a success it is! Not just in terms of academic achievement – which has been evidenced over time, but so importantly, when it comes to making a difference in the lives of students, day after day. Over the past ten years, CQA has worked to bring its mission to life, creating an environment where all students can learn, and they can thrive, and they can reach their full potential.

So, as we celebrate this beautiful building, let’s take a moment to reflect on all the people that make days like today, and schools like CQA possible. Because this is not the result of the actions of any one person, but of a community – this community – tirelessly working toward a common goal.

Dedicated, supportive school leaders, staff and board members who put students first.

Hardworking educators that walk your halls and spark inspiration within your classrooms.

Devoted families, loved ones, and caregivers who strive to do all they can for their children and put them on a path to success.

Last and certainly not least – the students – each and everyone of you.

We commend you – everyone – for your hard work and commitment to CQA, this school, and this community.

Congratulations to all!”
