KIPP Capital Region Public Charter Schools, an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one charter school, requested the following charter revision:
KIPP Troy Prep Charter School, currently located at 2 Polk Street and 3055 6th Avenue, Troy, New York, 12180 in the Troy City School District, is chartered to serve 743 students in grades K-12 for the 2024-25 school year, growing to serve 1,358 students in grades K-12 by the 2028-29 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school requested a charter revision to relocate its high school to a new facility in the City School District of Albany, providing a more centralized location for its high school program. The SUNY Charter Schools Institute, as the SUNY Trustees’ designee: 1) received the revision application on or about April 11, 2025, 2) approved the revision application on May 27, 2025, and 3) the revision application was approved by operation of law on or about September 5, 2025.

Ascend Charter Schools, an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one school, requests the following revision:
Flatbush Ascend Charter School, located at 123 Linden Boulevard, Brooklyn, New York 11226 and 1833 Nostrand Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11226 in Community School Districts (“CSDs”) 17 and CSD 22, respectively, is chartered to serve 402 students in grades K-7 for the 2025-26 school year growing to serve 451 students in grades K-8 by the 2028-29 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school requests an enrollment increase to serve 520 students in grades K-7 for the 2025-26 school year growing to serve 558 students in grades K-8 by the 2028-29 school year.

SUNY Charter Schools Institute Releases Draft of ‘2026 RFP to Authorize New Charter Schools’ for Public Comment
The SUNY Charter Schools Institute (the “Institute”), on behalf of the SUNY Board of Trustees, announces the release of the Draft of the 2026 SUNY Request for Proposals (RFP) to establish new charter schools in New York State. The Charter Schools Act of 1998 requires New York’s charter authorizers to accept charter school applications by way of a Request for Proposals process. The statute mandates that SUNY issue a draft RFP for public comment prior to issuing the final RFP.
The Institute welcomes your comments and will review and consider all comments in finalizing the RFP.
The Institute will accept comments via email to: [email protected] through 5 P.M. on Monday December 1, 2025.
