SUNY Charter Schools Institute Releases Draft of ‘2026 RFP to Authorize New Charter Schools’ for Public Comment

The SUNY Charter Schools Institute (the “Institute”), on behalf of the SUNY Board of Trustees, announces the release of the Draft of the 2026 SUNY Request for Proposals (RFP) to establish new charter schools in New York State. The Charter Schools Act of 1998 requires New York’s charter authorizers to accept charter school applications by way of a Request for Proposals process. The statute mandates that SUNY issue a draft RFP for public comment prior to issuing the final RFP.

The Institute welcomes your comments and will review and consider all comments in finalizing the RFP.

The Institute will accept comments via email to: [email protected] through 5 P.M. on Monday December 1, 2025.

Success Academy Charter Schools – NYC, an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one school, requests the following revision:

  • Success Academy Charter School – Norwood, located at 268 East 207th Street, Bronx, NY 10467 in Community School District (“CSD”) CSD 10, is chartered to serve 533 students in grades K-3 for the 2025-26 school year and 633 students in grades K-4 for the 2026-27 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school requests an enrollment revision to serve 593 students in grades K-4 for the 2025-26 school year.

First Notice – The SUNY Trustees have received the following revision application:

Public Prep Charter School Academies, an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one charter school, requests the following enrollment revision:

    • Girls Preparatory Charter School of the Bronx II located at 263 East 203rd Street, Bronx, NY 10458 in Community School District 10, is chartered to serve 361 students in grades K-8 for the 2024-25 school year, the last year of the current charter term. The school requests an enrollment increase to serve 510 students in grades K-8 for the 2024-25 school year.
